Education QLDÂ introduces Maritime Training School in Cabarita, for all your education and learning needs.
The NSW Boat Licence Course is designed for everybody. Whether you’re brand new to boating, or you’ve been messing around in boats since you were a kid, the course will suit you. Speaking of kids, a young adult boat licence is available from the age of 12, so kids are catered to as well. It’s a great family experience! Not to mention great peace of mind knowing that your kids know all the rules and can handle a boat competently as well.
Boat Licence Courses Information
With the Maritime Training School, not only will you learn everything you need to know to get your Boat Licence NSW, you’ll have a fantastic day out on the water as well.
Already have the knowledge and just need to complete the practical and exam requirements?
Maritime Training School also offer a Twilight Express course. This special course is just 2 hours and covers the exam and practical only. For more information, please refer to our Twilight Express page by clicking here.
Boat Licence Courses in Mosman, Rose Bay, Cabarita or Cronulla
The course is held in Mosman in Sydney’s north, and starts at 9am in the morning, finishing at approximately 3.30pm. Live in the east or the west? We have pick-up points in Rose Bay and Cabarita where we can pick you up at 8.30am and drop you back after the course has finished.
If you live down south, we also hold a Boat Licence NSW Course in Cronulla, which is held at the Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking. The practical training for the Cronulla course is done in the beautiful waters of Port Hacking and Gunnamatta Bay.
First, the Boat Licence Theory
The theory component of the boat licence NSW course takes place in one of our waterfront classrooms. Never fear – even though it’s theory (and there are some serious safety aspects) our qualified trainers make it interesting and informative.
Then the Fun Part of the Boat Licence Test!
The practical component is the really fun part. Here you will board our 6.5m training boat and put everything that you’ve learned in the classroom into real-life practice. Out on the water you’ll get behind the helm and practise boat handling, navigating, mooring and more. It can be a little challenging if you’ve never driven a boat before, but don’t worry – our qualified instructors are friendly and patient and will make sure you get it right. That’s why you’re doing the course, after all!
Our trainers have many years experience in boating, and they really know all the tricks of the trade. We’ve had experienced boaties come along and do the course to support their kids or partners, and they’ve found that they’ve learned loads as well! This is a great way to upgrade your navigation skills and knowledge of current regulations, especially if you’ve had your boat licence for a while.
Then the Boat Licence Test Itself
Once you’ve mastered the basics on the boat, you’ll return to the classroom for the NSW General Boat Licence Test which features 50 multiple choice questions. If you’ve studied the course notes and listened to the trainers (and we’ve done our job well!) you will hopefully pass first go.
Need to Try Again? No Worries
If you don’t get the test first go, don’t worry. We will go through the questions that you missed so that you are confident you know them well, and you can attempt the test again. If you don’t get the test the second time around, you are welcome to take it again at our next course, free of charge.
Passed the Test? Now You’re Ready to Get Your Licence
NSW Boating Licences are only available from the Maritime and Roads Service, so you will still have to go into their offices to arrange that. But you will have everything you need to make that part of the process quick and easy. And you’ll have had a great day out on the water as well!
Add on Your PWC Licence Training Too
Personal Watercrafts (PWCs) or jetskis require a licence no matter what the speed, and you must have passed the general boating test before you can apply for a Personal Watercraft Licence. Training for the PWC Licence is also available through the Maritime Training School and you can easily add it on to your Boat Licence training on the same day. The PWC course is theory only and there is no practical component. The course takes approximately one hour to complete, and the exam has 15 multiple choice questions. Get it all done on the one day, and save time and hassle!
Boat Licence Course Components
Our Boat Licence Course covers many topics, but three of the units are nationally recognised as core competencies adopted by government marine safety authorities to promote the safe use of waterways and to contribute to awareness of boating safety. These competencies are featured in several courses, including Boating Services Certificates I, II and III, Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training, and Outdoor Recreation. The units of competency are:
Unit MEM50008B (Carry out trip preparation and planning)
Unit MEM50009B (Safely operate a mechanically powered recreational boat)
Unit MEM50010B (Respond to boating emergencies and incidents)
Courses are held at Mosman, with pick up locations from Cabarita and Rose Bay

Welcome to Maritime Training School one of the popular educators in your Cabarita area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other’s uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
